I met Lucas in the late 90s as he was attending college in Boston, Massachusetts. My friend told me I had to meet this “weirdo” because he had a ridiculous collection of vinyl. As I walked into his room, I saw thousands of albums by bands that, after years working in a record store, had never heard of ever. Lucas’ collection was mostly of late 60s to mid 70s psych/rock/pop bands from central and South America, Africa, Indonesia and points beyond. These were the children of American and British music, making music with guitars and drums and voice in the style of the Beatles to Sir Lord Baltimore and stops in between. Now, in the latter half of the first decade of the newest millennium, Lucas and his Peruvian banditos make music influenced by those children, now mothers and fathers and aunts and uncles and shining giants…
