Akasa mastermind Josh Benedict is indeed the Brian Wilson of what critics call “metalgaze.” Josh Benedict is not to be trusted, because he isn’t playing music for you or me or him. He is playing music designed to corrupt the structure of your still-beating heart. After the title track, you’ll find a shocking turn of events, as he applies his fingers and ears to what we can only call “freak folk” as if Sigur Ros were playing it. If you’ve ever had your heart destroyed, you will surely commiserate with this, the most gut-wrenching of songs.
